Copper thieves leave home destroyed, insurance claim denied

Imagine moving for military service, but maintaining the home you left behind because it wasn't financially feasible to sell. One day a neighbor of the old unoccupied house calls to say it appears there are visitors, when no one should have been home.

This is what happened to a family who moved to Florida and another state for active duty. When the family got the call from their neighbor back in their home state, they immediately called police. However, police didn't find anything suspicious.

On their next visit to the house, the family found the house flooded, and copper pipe stolen, even pipe from the hot water heater. This was devastating for the family, who already found out the foundation was in disrepair after they moved in, costing them tens of thousands of dollars.

The family's insurance claim was denied because they were told they didn't notify they insurance company that the house was vacant. The company also refused to refund the family's premiums that they paid for the policy.

While each case is unique, sometimes insurance companies deny legitimate claims. The more claims they can deny and not have to pay out, the larger the company's profits will be. Speaking with an experienced bad faith insurance attorney might be a wise decision if anyone feels that their claim has been denied despite the claim falling under the terms of the policy. They can help the family seek the compensation that they rightfully deserve so they can move forward with their lives.
