High-profile drunk driving accident in Miami makes national news

Drunk driving arrests happen all the time, especially in a highly-populated state such as Florida. We all hope that these arrests happen before a car accident occurs but, unfortunately, that isn't always the case. But, usually we don't see reports of a drunk driver actually making contact with law enforcement officials - especially by ramming their vehicle.

According to a recent report, that is exactly what occurred in a high-profile drunk driving accident that occurred on November 30 and resulted in national news headlines. The alleged drunk driver was one of pop star Justin Bieber's bodyguards.

The reports indicate that the suspect, a 32-year-old male, was driving an SUV at approximately 2:30 a.m. As the driver approached an intersection, he slammed into the rear-end of a marked police car. In the immediate aftermath, the suspect then reportedly attempted to drive his vehicle away from the scene. Fortunately, other police officers who were in the nearby area were able to locate the SUV and stop the vehicle. The driver reportedly admitted to law enforcement officials that he had been consuming alcohol.

Both of the police officers in the car that was struck were injured. One reportedly suffered injuries to her back, while the other suffered a concussion and a cut on his head. Luckily, the officers are expected to recover fully from their injuries. However, for the alleged drunk driver, he will face not only the prospect of criminal charges, but potentially a civil personal injury lawsuit as well, if the officers decide they want to pursue compensation to pay for their medical bills.
