Elderly woman dies of injuries suffered in hit-and-run accident

Our readers in the Miami area may have seen the recent news about law enforcement efforts to track down a hit-and-run driver whose recklessness led to the death of an 83-year-old woman. Any type of car accident that leads to a death is tragic, but the circumstances of this recent incident are particularly shocking.

According to the reports, the collision occurred during the evening hours on November 1. The elderly woman who was struck and killed was reportedly driving her electric wheelchair down the side of a road when a four-door vehicle collided with her. The initial reports had scant information about the make and model of the vehicle involved or the identity of the driver, but law enforcement officials were fortunate enough to find some security video footage of the hit-and-run.

The elderly victim was rushed from the scene for medical treatment, but she did not survive her injuries. The security footage of the collision reportedly shows the vehicle that hit this woman speeding away from the scene afterward.

Hit-and-run collisions are more common than many people realize. There are many drivers on the roads who are operating vehicles while intoxicated, with suspended licenses or without insurance - and when they are involved in a car collision, their first instinct is to run. Unfortunately, that rarely makes a bad situation better. When these types of reckless drivers are finally identified and arrested, they ultimately pay the price for their behavior. Injured victims may also be able to pursue justice in the form of a personal injury lawsuit to seek financial compensation.
