Ex-NFL star Chad Johnson's Broward County house foreclosed on

Foreclosure doesn’t just happen to ordinary South Florida homeowners. Sometimes, the rich and famous also lose their home to foreclosure.

Recently, former star football player Chad Johnson’s Davie home was foreclosed upon, according to the New Times Broward-Palm Beach. The home is part of a homeowner’s association, which accused Johnson of owing more than $3,500 in dues. It sued Johnson in May 2015, leading to a Broward County judge granting a final motion of foreclosure on March 1 of this year.

A couple of weeks later, Johnson wrote on Twitter that he had paid the association fees and had deliberately waited until after the foreclosure went through. “Make them earn it,” he wrote.

The news article says the house, valued at about $1.1 million, is expected to hit the market on April 15. It is not clear if Johnson’s claims to have paid the disputed dues will affect this plan, or if he will be able to keep the house.

Johnson, as football fans know, played 11 seasons in the NFL as a star wide receiver. He also starred in a short-lived reality dating series in 2010. His current financial situation is not mentioned in the article, so we do not know why Johnson fell behind on his association dues.

For many home owning Floridians, all it takes is one financial setback to force them to fall behind on their mortgage. When this happens, the fear of losing your home can become all too real. But it is not too late to fight for your home, with the help of a foreclosure defense attorney.
