Sinkhole insurance claims remain uncertain for many in Florida

Insurance is something that many people don't like to pay for, but they understand that it can be completely worth it for just one claim that they might need to make. Homeowners work hard in Florida to pay their premiums and select appropriate policies that will meet their needs.

However, insurance companies many times will try to deny legitimate claims, or only offer cosmetic fixes, that are likely to result in the need for an additional claim in the future. People across Florida have been battling Citizens Property Insurance for reportedly denying or delaying claims that some homeowners have made for damage to their homes caused by sinkholes.

Sinkholes are cause when the ground shifts suddenly do to environment effects, which can cause a massive hole in the ground. If a person's house is located on one of these sinkholes, they might lose their entire home, or have significant damage as the sinkhole develops.

According to one report, Citizens insurance, which is run by the state, has tried to only pay some Florida homeowners for cosmetic fixes. In other cases, homeowners have found their own contractors and engineers to assess their sinkhole situation, only to have much higher estimates for work than that determined by the insurance company.

When people pay their premiums on time, they should be treated fairly. Speaking with an attorney who handles bad faith insurance issues in Florida might be a wise decision for a person who is having trouble making progress on their claim with an insurer.
