Homeowners' claims to be reviewed by state

When a person makes a claim on their insurance policy for their home, it is likely because of an unexpected tragedy that resulted in severe damage or even the complete loss of their home. While there are terms that change for each policy, and many are specific based on the company that the person is insured through and what the risk factors are in insuring the home.

However, insurance serves a purpose, to help pay expenses in repairing or rebuilding a home in case of an unexpected loss or damage. When an insurer fails to properly address a claim, they might be acting in bad faith. A denied insurance claim is a common way in which insurance companies try to save money.

Denying a claim can be devastating to a homeowner, but could save the insurance company, thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars if the owner doesn't contest the denied claim.

When an insurance company doesn't consider the interests of the homeowner, and a homeowner believes that their insurance policy should cover the claim, they might be wise to speak with an attorney who handles bad faith insurance issues. They can help the person advocate and fight for their rights.

Within the next month, Florida will be reviewing how insurance claims are handled, and laws that covered policyholders to help ensure that consumers are not being taken advantage of. No matter what lengths laws try to protect consumers, it is important that insurance customers understand and assert their rights.
