Puddle of Mudd singer melts down over home foreclosure

Losing your home to foreclosure can be devastating. Besides the humiliation of having to hand over your keys to a sheriff’s deputy, there is the fear and uncertainty of finding a new place for you and your family to live. Plus there is the impact on your credit rating. Thus, it’s natural for foreclosure to bring up a lot of negative emotions.

Sometimes, the stress and agony of foreclosure causes homeowners to do foolish things. For example, Wesley Scantlin, the lead singer of nu-metal band Puddle of Mudd, has gotten into a great deal of trouble, legal and otherwise, after his home was foreclosed upon.

Authorities say that on Jan. 9, Scantlin returned to the home and broke in, breaking a window and getting a locksmith to unlock the door. Once inside, prosecutors allege, he damaged the alarm system and vandalized the plumbing and a garage door. Police arrested him at the scene.

Then, Scantlin missed a court appearance related to the charges on Feb. 3, causing the judge to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. His attorney said that Scantlin could not appear because he missed a flight and his wallet was missing.

It appears that the foreclosure is still very much on Scantlin’s mind, weeks after the alleged Jan. 9 incident. He interrupted a recent Puddle of Mudd concert when he accused a man in the audience of stealing his house. He went into a five-minute “profanity-filled rant,” the Los Angeles Daily News reports, before walking off stage.

We do not recommend that anyone going through foreclosure resort to criminal activity to get revenge. But we do suggest that South Florida homeowners fight to keep their home with the assistance of a foreclosure defense attorney.
